Flat Camp 2023

Frequently Asked Questions

Why the wide range of ticket prices?

Because there is a pretty wide range of room types in these cabins. This event is 100% all-inclusive, and the cabins represent a significant portion of the budget to put retreat on.

Double Occupancy rooms include two tickets, Triple include three, and so on. If after a few weeks we still have multi-occupancy rooms unsold, we'll start breaking them individually to make them an option for people who don't mind sharing with whoever.

We've done our best to create as many options as possible for a wide range of attendees. If you don't see something that fits your needs, please contact us, we might be able to work something out.

What's the difference between the bed sizes?

We understand that if you're coming from outside of North America the bed size names might be confusing or not very helpful for you. Hopefully this image we stole from a random website will help you work it out.

Can I bring my spouse/partner?

Sure! IF your spouse or partner is super into Statamic, you're more than welcome to bring them and share a King or Queen sized room. We have a special partner rate of $600 per person that includes food, transportation, activities, and swag.

Where exactly is the venue?

We've rented out 7 cabins on a private mountain in Dobson, North Carolina, right in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains. These cabins collectively are called the Carolina Getaway Cabins – feel free to explore the property on their website and see things to do nearby if you want to extend your stay in the area.

How do I get to the venue?

If you are flying into Charlotte Douglass Airport on the 22nd, we'll have a few rounds of vans shuttling people to the mountain. Please let us know what time your flight arrives so we can do our best to accommodate you! We'll also get you back to the airport on the 25th.

If you're flying into another airport and renting a car, or are driving to Flat Camp, here's your map for driving directions.

Can I see what the various rooms look like?

Certainly! The best way to do that would be to watch the Carolina Getaway Cabins videos on YouTube. You'll be able to see full cabin walk-throughs and get a feel for the place.

Can I pick which cabin or room I'm in?

We are assigning people to cabins and rooms in a first-come, first-serve basis, with the most "appealing" rooms being booked first. So don't wait, get your ticket quickly!

If you have special needs/circumstances or really really really want to be in the same cabin as someone else you know that's attending, send us an email and we'll do the best we can to accommodate.

What airport do I fly into?

The closest airport is Charlotte Douglass. This is where we'll be running a few rounds of vans shuttling people to the mountain. Please let us know what time your flight arrives so we can do our best to accommodate you! We'll also bring you back to the airport on the 25th, if you'd like.

The Concord Regional Airport is also pretty close, but you'll need to arrange your own transportation from there.

Can I get a refund if I can’t go?

If we can resell your ticket to someone on a waiting list, we'll be happy to refund your ticket. Unfortunately, the nature and price of this event requires us to very nearly sell out in order to not lose quite a bit of money. We hope you understand!

What if I have food allergies or dietary requirements?

When booking your ticket we'll have a form field for this very detail. Please let us know what you need and we'll make sure the catering company will take of you.

Can I bring my kids?

Sorry, but no. This is a grown-up event.

What will there be to do besides talk to other people?

Oh, there's plenty to do! We didn't want to overwhelm the group with options, but we'll have lawn games, campfires, board games, retro video game tournaments (I mean, what did you expect?), a possible wine tasting event, and all manner of outdoor activities.

There are a few hot tubs to choose from, a nearby pond with a picnic area, and big open fields for flying drones, frisbee, Can Jam, bocci, you name it.

Oh and there will definitely be whiskey by the fire.

What stuff should I bring?

Besides the obvious like clean socks, a toothbrush, and your laptop – feel free to bring a pair of hiking/trail shoes, a bathing suit if you want to use the hot tubs, camera gear if you're into photography, your favorite board game, or whatever else you want.

If you're coming from outside North America, don't forget to bring a power adapter for US outlets.

Will there be wifi?

Of course. That was a requirement.

What's the food situation?

We have a catering company taking care of all of our meals. We haven't been given the menu options yet, but we expect them to be pretty standard banquet style fair – chicken, steak, pasta, sandwiches, cereals, yogurts, fruits, and so on.

There will be a self-serve coffee bar every morning in one of the two main lodges, along with a snack table stashed somewhere so you can (probably) never go hungry.
